About Enbrel (Etanercept)

Generic Name: Etanercept
Purpose: Enbrel is a biologic medication used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and plaque psoriasis. It works by blocking tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a protein that contributes to inflammation and joint damage.
Dosage Form: Injection
Strength: 50 mg/mL, 25 mg/mL (pediatric)
Dosage: For adults with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis: The usual dose is 50 mg injected subcutaneously once weekly. Alternatively, a dose of 25 mg may be given twice weekly.

For plaque psoriasis: The recommended dose is 50 mg injected subcutaneously once weekly. Alternatively, a dose of 50 mg may be given twice weekly for 3 months, followed by a maintenance dose of 50 mg once weekly.

Pediatric dosing varies based on weight and indication.

Route of Administration: Subcutaneous injection
