Dosage & How to Use Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)
Dosing
Most patients taking Mounjaro are given a starting dose of 2.5 mg for the first four weeks. This dose is then increased to 5 mg for at least another four weeks. This dose may be increased again in 2.5 mg increments depending on the patient’s response and what the doctor believes is best for them. Patients will have to stay on each dose for at least four weeks before it can be increased. How to Use the Medication
This medication is taken by the patient once per week. The injection should be given on the same day each week. However, it does not necessarily have to be at the same time on each of those days. Missed doses of this medication should be taken as soon as possible as long as it is no more than four days late. Doses should be skipped if more than four days have passed since the time it was originally supposed to be taken and the next dose should be taken at its regularly scheduled time. Make sure there are at least three days between each dose.
Injections of this medication are often given in the stomach or thighs. They can also be given in the back of the upper arms. Injection site spots should be rotated each week when the medication is given.
Patients can use these pens by:
- Locating the injection where they intend to inject the medication for the week
- Removing the base cap from their pen
- Placing the base of the pen flat on the skin of the selected injection site and unlocking it
- Pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds (a clicking sound will indicate that the injection has started and a second click will indicate that the injection is complete)
